Mats Sports are off to a hot start this fall season! Check out the updates below to see each program's early achievements and upcoming competitions!
Â
CROSS COUNTRY
Cross Country dominated in their scrimmage against Hayward High School, earning three first place finishes out of four races total. Congratulations to Sasha Bevacqua, Marissa Dollard, and John Kuhns for reaching the top of the podium! Cross Country is now gearing up for the prestigious Ed Sias Invitational on Saturday, September 13th.
Â
FLAGÂ FOOTBALL
Flag Football's schedule will kick off at home against Clayton Valley on Monday, September 8th (JV at 6:30, Varsity at 7:45). In just their third year of competition, the Lady Mats hope to build off a promising 2024 season!Â
FOOTBALL
The Mats completed the sweep against Oakland Tech last Friday thanks to authoritative victories from both the JV and Varsity squads. The Varsity team was led by quarterback Carson Blair, who threw for three touchdowns and ran in another to solidify a 27-8 win over the Bulldogs. Football looks to keep the momentum against Alhambra this Friday (9/5), their first home game of the season.Â
MEN'S WATER POLO
In their first match of the year, Men's Water Polo lived up to their billing as one of the best teams in the country by dispatching of Tamalpais 14-7. JV did their part as well, tallying a dominate 28-2 victory. Both squads look ahead to a tough matchup against Redwood on Friday, September 12th.
WOMEN'S GOLF
Women's Golf starts the year off with a perfect 4-0 record thanks to victories versus Concord, Las Lomas, and Albany (twice). The Lady Mats look to continue their dominance as they approach back-to-back matches against Acalanes next Monday (9/8) and Wednesday (9/10).
WOMEN'S TENNIS
Women's Tennis appears unstoppable to kick things off this year. Undefeated at both the JV and Varsity level, the Lady Mats are showing no signs of slowing down. Varsity took home first place at the Elite James Logan Tournament thanks to major contributions from Caitlin Chan, Madeline Stout, and the dynamic sister duo of Madeleine Essner and Isabelle Essner. Both JV and Varsity go toe-to-toe against Alameda at home this afternoon (9/3).Â
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Coming off an early season scrimmage against Cal High, Women's Volleyball looks to start their season off right versus Benicia next Thursday (9/11). Led by captains Eva Chevalier and Maddie Yun, the Lady Mats are poised for an outstanding season at all three levels.Â
WOMEN'S WATER POLO
After five consecutive seasons at the top of the national rankings according to Maxpreps (including four seasons as #1 in both California and the nation), Women's Water Polo hopes to continue their dominant run in 2025. Playing arguably the most competitive schedule in Northern California, the Lady Mats will be battle tested come postseason play in their pursuit of DAL, NCS, and NorCal Championships. Make sure to go support them at the Acalanes Invitational this weekend!Â
