Louis Suba

Louis Suba is originally from St. Louis, Missouri, where he began wrestling at age 12. He went on to wrestle at Indiana University before earning his degree and starting his professional career with Price Waterhouse as a management consultant in Chicago. After five years of enduring cold and windy Chicago winters, he moved to California to pursue his MBA at UC Berkeley.

Following graduation, Suba spent 25 years in investment banking in San Francisco. Working east coast hours from the west coast left him with free afternoons, which he devoted to giving back to the sport by coaching wrestling at Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep in San Francisco. After a few years as an assistant coach at SHCP, Suba and his family moved to Orinda, where he joined the staff at Campolindo. He spent three years as an assistant coach and another three years as co-head coach before taking over the wrestling program at Miramonte, where both his sons would attend.

When Suba took over, the Miramonte wrestling team had just nine athletes. In five years, the program has grown to more than 40 wrestlers and is now a contender for a league championship. Under his leadership, Miramonte has produced more North Coast Section and CIF State qualifiers and medalists than it had seen in decades, cementing Suba’s impact as both a builder of programs and a mentor to student-athletes.
