Miramonte High School

Shaughnessy brings to Miramonte an impressive background as a basketball coach, basketball trainer, and former special education teacher.

Shaughnessy holds a BA in Recreation Administration from Kean University, where he was a standout athlete on the basketball court. Following his collegiate playing career, Mike transitioned into coaching and teaching. He is currently an individual basketball trainer. During his time as a coach, Shaughnessy has consistently shown dedication to nurturing student-athletes who thrive academically, athletically, and within their communities. His coaching approach prioritizes teamwork, tough defense, a positive culture, and a steadfast drive for improvement, values that closely resonate with Miramonte High School's mission.

Shaughnessy previously served as Head Coach at Northgate High School and led Northgate to their first Open Division postseason appearance in school history. The playoff appearance also resulted in Northgate's first playoff win in seven years and first California Interscholastic Federation appearance in 20 years. Shaughnessy was awarded West Coast Preps Coach of the year after the season.
