#1 Women's Soccer Defeats #2 Cardinal Newman 3-2 to Win NCS Championship

The #1 Miramonte High School women's soccer team won a penalty shootout, 5-4, over the visiting #2 Cardinal Newman Cardinals to capture the
Division 3 North Coast Section Championship Friday night with a 3-2 victory. The match was tied 2-2 after regulation and remained tied after two 10-minute overtime halves. Each team successfully made four penalty kicks in the first round of penalty kicks, leading to a sudden death penalty kick finish. Miramonte, in front of their large home crowd, blocked Cardinal Newman's next penalty kick and then scored the winner on their next kick. The final score was a 3-2 Miramonte victory in overtime after a 5-4 penalty kick shootout.
The Matadors will advance to the
CIF Northern California Regional Soccer Championships beginning next Tuesday at 5:00pm. Brackets with seedings, matchups, and locations will be released on Sunday afternoon.

Miramonte captured its fifth NCS title and first since 2019 on Friday in a win over Cardinal Newman that went to penalty kicks.
Madyson Yu and Sadie Leal Schuman scored Miramonte's two goals in regulation before the Matadors out shot Cardinal Newman 5-4 in penalty kicks. Miramonte improved to 17-2-2.
