Women's Tennis finishes 2023 season with a 20-4 record; falling to eventual NCS champs in semi-final round
December 1st, 2023

Miramonte Varsity Women's Tennis concluded an exceptional season with a final record of 20-4, losing a heartbreaker, 3-4,   in the NCS semi-finals. Seniors Juliette Krumholz, Nicole Guo, Nicole Hui, and Alison Rhee lead Miramonte to two straight DAL championships, including a dominant, undefeated league season this year.

"Being a part of the tennis team was the best experience. I loved getting ready for matches with my team and supporting one another on the court during our games. My favorite match this season was our second league match against Campo because the competition level was high and everyone was so supportive and excited during the match." Captain Nicole Hui

"This tennis season was one of my favorites. From our early morning practices and incredibly fun car rides, I will cherish these memories." - Captain Nicole Guo

In the league tournament, for the first time ever, Miramonte swept the doubles tournament, winning 1st (Caitlin Chan/Maddie Silveira), 2nd (Audrey Kosla/Alison Rhee) and 3rd (Maddie Essner/Emily Suh) over all other doubles teams in the league. Our 2nd and 3rd place teams also earned All-League, First Team Doubles honors, while Caitlin (22-4) was First Team in Singles, and Maddie Silveira, Nicole Hiu, and Nicole Guo were Second Team. Sophomores Caitlin Chan and Maddie Silveira teamed up to play in the NCS Doubles competition, earning 2nd place overall, the highest ever finish for a Miramonte duo.

"The team vibe was SO good this year - our girls put in a lot of time in the offseason to improve, and exceeded all competitive expectations. We had a crew that loved to work hard, compete well, and have fun. My favorite practices were the 6:30am Dawn Patrol Friday mornings, with the occasional SiSi visit afterward… so fun" - Coach Riki Sorenson

Caitlin Chan who played number three as a freshman last year was the lead singles player this year as a sophmore. "Caitlin has really made extraordinary improvement from last year," Sorenson said. "Her strength had been consistency, but she has become more powerful in her serving and ground strokes and has already had two big wins over the top players at Carondelet and Piedmont."
