Miramonte Softball: 2024 Diablo Athletic League Mountain Champions

With two victories this week in Diablo Athletic League Mountain Division play, the Mats Softball clinched the DAL Mountain Division championship.

Thursday, May 9th
Miramonte 9, Mt. Diablo 3
In the DAL clinching game, the Matadors were led by dominant pitching from their ace Abby Warren, along with a 12 hit day from the offense. Starting with the pitching, Warren struck out 10 batters, surrendered one hit and three runs over seven innings. For the week, in 14 innings Warren struck out 25 batters, gave up 6 hits, and allowed only 5 runs.
The game was tied 0-0 heading into the fourth inning when the offense came alive, in large part from Gianna Granzella and Talia Kardon who each collected three hits in four at-bats. Granzella singled in the first, had an inside the park home run in the fifth inning, and doubled in the seventh. A single by Avery Haynes put Miramonte on the board in the top of the fourth. Three more runs crossed the plate in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 4-0. Antonia Lawrence had a clutch single, scoring two runs.Â
Up next for the Matadors will be a potential NCS game, once brackets are releasedÂ

Miramonte 8, Campo 2
The Mats got on the board in the top of the first after Gianna Granzella stole home, Julia Quinn-Ferguson singled, and Avery Haynes doubled, each scoring one run.Â
Granzella and Haynes each collected two hits. Haynes went 2-4 at the plate with two runs batted in. McKim and Granzella each stole multiple bases, with the Mats totaling nine stolen bases in the game.
Abby Warren struck out 15 batters in seven innings allowing only two runs while walking one. Â
