Miramonte Launches New Aquatics Capital Improvement Campaign

ACALANES UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT AND MIRAMONTE HIGH SCHOOL
PARTNER ON UPCOMING AQUATICS CENTER RENOVATION

ORINDA, CA, May 7, 2025 — The Acalanes Union High School District (AUHSD) and Miramonte High School are excited to announce a major initiative to modernize the Bill Brown Aquatic Center, the school's long-standing aquatics facility. Approved by the AUHSD Board of Education last year as part of a district-wide capital improvement plan, the project will bring much-needed upgrades to the facility, originally constructed in 1960. Renovation of the Aquatic Center is scheduled to begin in 2026 and will be a priority construction project for AUHSD.

"The Acalanes Union High School District is fully committed to upgrading the Miramonte pool and aquatics facility. Replacing the deck, refurbishing the pool shell, and making the locker rooms and bathrooms ADA-compliant are top priorities, and we are looking forward to these much-needed improvements," said Nick Carpenter, AUHSD Associate Superintendent, Business Services. "The school district plans to start this project in the fall of 2026, at the close of the water polo season."

The Bill Brown Aquatic Center hosts a wide range of activities throughout the year, including Miramonte's Physical Education swim classes for all first-year students, Miramonte Swim and Water Polo events, as well as numerous community partner events such as recreational swim team practices and club water polo competitions.

NEW AQUATICS CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN
Today, the Miramonte Boosters Club is launching its most ambitious fundraising effort to date: the Bill Brown Aquatic Center Capital Improvement Campaign. With a goal of raising $750,000, the campaign seeks support from Miramonte families, alumni, relevant foundations, and corporate sponsors who share the Mats' passion for aquatic sports and activities. By securing additional community funding, AUHSD and Miramonte will be able to expand the scope of the base project to include long-awaited enhancements, such as:

  • New starting blocks

  • New pool lights

  • New exterior paint

  • New scoreboard

  • New windscreens

  • New branding, signage, and Wall of Fame

  • Improved team rooms, offices, and storage spaces

"I'm excited to be working alongside AUHSD staff, the Miramonte Boosters' Club, and our community partners to make this project a great success. Together we've moved beyond a planned pool upgrade and reimagined our aquatics center to be a first-class facility for our athletic programs, physical education classes, and community partners," said Miramonte Principal Ben Campopiano. "With joint funding in place, we could take advantage of existing district approvals and contracts, do all of the desired construction at once, and minimize the impact on our students, staff, and families."
