Doug Robbins played football and baseball at Miramonte. In 1983, as a football player, he was named SF Examiner All-Bay Area and All-Northern California while helping lead the Matadors to a North Coast Section title. As a baseball player, he was named SF Examiner All-Bay Area in 1983. After Miramonte, Doug decided to play baseball at Stanford. As a catcher for the Cardinal, he played on NCAA Championship teams in 1987 and 1988. He was named All-College World Series in 1988. That same year, Doug earned a Gold Medal playing for Team USA at the Olympic Games in Seoul. In the 1988 Major League Baseball Draft, he was selected by the Baltimore Orioles. Over the next 4 years, Doug worked his way up the Orioles organization to the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings. In 1993, he was traded to the Oakland Athletics and finished his baseball career playing for the Triple-A Tacoma Tigers.
