BILL BROWN (1966-2005)
Bill Brown was a coach and teacher at Miramonte for 39 years from 1966 to 2005. When he began his career as a teacher at Miramonte, he intended to coach football and basketball, but instead started the water polo program at the urging of a handful of students. Bill coached teams to 20 league titles and 11 NCS championships. In 1997, he was named the Cal-Hi Coach of the Year. Led by Bill and Coach James Lathrop, Miramonte became the most successful high school water polo program in Northern California and ranks as one of the best high school programs in the country during the last 50 years. Bill has been inducted into the California High School Coaches Hall of Fame, the National High School Coaches Hall of Fame, and the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the Albany High School Hall of Fame as an athlete (football, baseball, basketball, track, and swimming).
