OTIS McCAIN (1962-2008)
Otis McCain was a long time science teacher and coached a wide variety of sports at Miramonte. He was the first recipient of the Warren Eukel Award for excellence in teaching and coaching. He started as the freshman baseball coach and then became the JV coach. He coached several league championship tennis teams, but he really hit his stride as a cross country and track coach. Today, the Miramonte track bears his name as a testament to McCain’s coaching. His cross country and track teams dominated the league from the mid-1970s through the mid-1990s, culminating with the 1995 cross country team finishing second in the California State Meet and McCain being named NCS Cross Country Coach of the Year. McCain is still proud that 70+ girls and 60+ boys participated in cross country at Miramonte each year that he coached and . . . many are still running.
