JON SVENDSEN, '71
Jon Svendsen played water polo, basketball and swam at Miramonte. He was named All American in water polo in 1970 and 1971. Jon went on to UC Berkeley, where he played water polo and swam. He was a 3 time All American in 1973, 1974 and 1975 leading the Cal men’s water polo team to 3 consecutive NCAA titles and a combined record of 72-9 during that span. He was NCAA All American in 1971, 1973, 1974 and 1975, and NCAA MVP in 1973 and 1975. Also In 1975, Jon was named the Collegiate Player of the Year, Pac-10 Player of the Year and NCAA Tournament MVP. At Cal, he also earned All American honors in swimming in 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1974. Following his career at Cal, Jon was a regular on the US National team for a decade. He was a member of the 1980 US Olympic team that boycotted the games in Moscow. He earned a silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Jon has been inducted into the Cal Athletics Hall of Fame and the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame.
