DIXON FARMER, '59
Dixon Farmer was a prolific Track and Field athlete throughout his career at Miramonte. He was California state champion in the 440, 180 intermediate hurdles and broad jump in both 1958 and 1959. Also, in 1959, Dixon set California state records in the Pentathalon and the 400 meter intermediate hurdles. He went on to run at Occidental College, where he was NCAA champion in the 400 meter intermediate hurdles in 1961. That same year, he represented the USA overseas in dual meets against Russia, Poland, Germany and England. After completion of his career as an athlete, Dixon continued his career in track and field. He coached at Occidental from 1963-1971, Michigan from 1972-1974. He also coached track at San Diego State and the University of Washington. Dixon was named Coach of the Year 3 times over his career. In 2000, he was the Track and Field Coordinator at the US Olympic training center and a member of the US Olympic coaching staff at the games in Sydney, Australia. As an administrator, Dixon served as Athletic Director Occidental College for 7 years before retiring in 2007. He has also been inducted into the Occidental Track and Field Hall of Fame.
