DIXON FARMER, '59
Dixon Farmer was a prolific track and field athlete throughout his career at Miramonte. He was California state champion in the intermediate hurdles and broad jump in both 1958 and 1959. In 1959, Dixon set California state records in the pentathlon and the 400 meter intermediate hurdles. He went on to run at Occidental College, where he was NCAA champion in the 400 meter intermediate hurdles in 1961. That same year, he represented the USA overseas in dual meets against Russia, Poland, Germany and England. After completing his career as an athlete, Dixon transitioned to coaching. He coached at Occidental from 1963-1971 and Michigan from 1972-1974. He later coached track at San Diego State and the University of Washington. Dixon was named coach of the year three times over his career. In 2000, he was the Track and Field Coordinator at the US Olympic Training Center and a member of the US National Team coaching staff at the Olympics in Sydney. As an administrator, Dixon served as athletic director at Occidental College for seven years before retiring in 2007. He has also been inducted into the Occidental Track and Field Hall of Fame.
